RV Tips on How to Take Care and Maintain Your Waste Water System
By Greg Mitchell
Waste water system in RV is self - sufficient when on the road or settled in
a campsite. The basic parts of the RV waste system are the holding tanks,
toilet and tank dump valves. Its drainage system includes p - traps and roof
vents for the odor and gases to escape just like in your normal households.
RV Travel Trailer Waste Holding Tanks
Waste Water is divided into black water and gray water. Black water pertains
to the waste that is flushed down from the toilet and kept in one tank
called the black tank. Gray water refers to the waste water coming from the
RV sink, shower and tub drains and is kept in one or more gray tanks. The
waste tanks are emptied through a single outlet and each are controlled by
separate valves.
Dumping valves should be kept closed even when they are attached to an outer
sewer hook up. Handling proper dumping is to empty your RV tanks when they
are almost full. This will help in sending huge volumes of water passing
through the tanks and hose at one time assisting the solid waste in flushing
down from the system.
Dumping Your RV Travel Trailers Waste Holding Tank
In dumping the waste holding tank on your RV travel trailer make sure to put
the end sewer hose into the dump station inlet before twisting the
termination cap outlet. Then attach it to the sewer hose to lock the end
levers over at the termination end by turning in clock wise. Open and drain
the black tank termination valve followed by the gray tank termination
valve. Make sure that you drain tanks one at a time and close the valves
after draining. Take off the sewer hose from the station inlet and place it
back to its proper place. Put the termination cap back on the outlet and
apply a deodorizing agent that is approved for RV use.
After emptying the tanks and closing the valves you can start placing water
on the water in the holding tanks to prevent the solids in building up.
RV Travel Trailer Toilet
The RV trailer toilet operates through water supplied from the fresh water
tank or from an outer water supply that is connected to a campground water
hook - up then flushes directly to your black water tank.
Building Up of Solids on Your RV
One of the main problems on RV travel trailers waste system is the building
up of solids. One way of reducing the risk of build up is to use a lot of
water when flushing your travel trailer toilet and keeping the valves of the
holding tanks closed until the system is ready to flush.
In case of build up, closing the valves and fill the tanks with fresh water
and drive your travel trailer a few miles to shake the solids then you can
drain the tanks.
Proper use and maintenance of your RV water waste system is an integral part
in taking care of your RV travel trailer. A well - maintained RV will keep
it away from any further damages. It is necessary to manage your waste
properly and dump them only on approved sites.
